MAHOGANY
Vintage 1960s/70s Egyptian Revival Beaded Capelet
Neck circumference: 30”
Length: 16” (from neck to longest fringe)
A stunning example of vintage Egyptian Revival fashion, this intricately beaded capelet dates from the 1960s or 70s. Featuring an elaborate combination of gold, turquoise, coral, and clear beads, the piece is very detailed.
The design includes a dramatic fringe that falls shorter at the chest and back, with longer strands draping over the shoulders. The neck is slightly padded for comfort and secures with a hook-and-eye closure. There is a minor separation in the beadwork at the closure (see photo).
This piece includes a written label, believed to be a museum tag, adding to its historical interest. A similar style was famously adapted for a costume worn by Diana Ross in the 1975 film Mahogany.
In excellent vintage condition with all beads intact—a rare and collectible statement piece.
